Insane is the only word I can find to describe us right now. Chaotic might be another word,is that even a word? Our days are spent in a gym or on a baseball field. Thank goodness I love sports!! What would I have done with a girl? (Mom asked me that yesterday) I said," Cut her hair short and give her a basketball!" LOL

So, my new year's resolution (besides exercising, eating better and taking care of myself and family) is to update my blog on a monthly basis. It has been since summer since I last posted, so I will quickly give the a recap.

After moving to Vegas, we got into the swing of things by jumping into sports with club baseball for Gunnar. This has been a total blast as well as hard work. Gunnar has learned so much and continues to grow in the sport. He also started basketball a few weeks ago, so needless to say - Gunnar is a busy boy.

Grady also started playing basketball with kids his age and practices daily in the backyard. He is quite the little shooter. We sign him up for Little League this month and he is looking forward to working on his swing and catching like Torri Hunter.

We took a few little short trips this year after the Tennessee reunion. The most recent was to Williams, AZ with the McDaniel family to travel to the North Pole on the Polar Express. We also visited the Grand Canyon. What a great time with GREAT friends.

Mom and Dad will be here in a few days for their 3 month visit. We look forward to spending time with Granny and Popaw. (Plus - the laundry fairy always shows up then for some reason).

Kurtis continues to commute to Pahrump for his job that is going well. My job as Lead Teacher at Somerset Academy has turned out to be such a blessing. I absolutely love what I do!

Crazy Summer!

I can't even begin to describe our summer. We finally were able to get all of our stuff moved into Vegas. I have taken a job as a Lead Teacher at a new charter school in town called Somerset Academy. Kurtis decided to stay at the middle school in Pahrump, so he will be commuting each day. We began our summer in Gatlinburg to celebrate mom and dad's upcoming 45th wedding anniversay. What an adventure. We seriously took 1011 pictures and could never describe the fun that we had in Tennessee. Was great to get the cousins together again. "Four Stinkin' Grandsons" as mom would say. We had a ball - Dollywood, aquarium and Gatlinburg for alpine slides and shopping. A huge thanks to mom and dad for pulling it together!!! It was truly wonderful.

We took a very short trip to California for an Angel's game. Between moving to Vegas, birthdays, and all the other stuff that sneaks up on you, it was a much needed trip away. We had a super time and wished we could stay longer. Next time!!

Spring is here - a few weeks after the hustle of back and forth trips to Vegas, baseball started. Both boys a few nights a week and games on Saturdays. The weather is starting to warm up and we are loving it. Lots of changes in store for the Greenwald family this year. All good ones!!! Will keep you posted on things as they happen.

End of Basketball Season!

Gunnar ended a great basketball season with being Champions in the league and 2nd place in the tournament. Also, he headed to California to play with Summerlin Select All Stars!! They played three games and did a great job and had a lot of fun. Gunnar said that it was the best day of his life!! Great job Gunnar - we are proud of you.

What a crazy week. Gunnar had tryouts today for Summerlin NJB All- Stars and MADE IT!! How can I be this stressed for the next 10 years of sports. HOW DID MY PARENTS DO IT??? CONGRATS to Gunnar we are so proud of him. We head to California at the end of February for the tournament. Will be a busy month.

Santa personally gave Gunnar and Grady a Christmas Bell this year. We were able, along with Granny and Popaw, to go to Williams, AZ to ride to the North Pole on the Polar Express. What a fun, fun experience. Was so fun to watch the kids and how excited they were to see the lights at the "North Pole". Luckily, Santa told them that they were on the Nice List and that he was glad that they made it on the train. Something to go see, already planning next year's ride.

Seeing Santa

Took the kids to Ace again this year to see Santa. Gunnar is getting a little too "old" to sit on Santa's lap. So he says. But he still put on his happy face and told him what he wanted. My babies are getting too big. Next week we head to Arizona with Granny and Popaw for the Polar Express. Lots of things happening at the Greenwald house. More details later. But for now - mommy needs a vacation.

Happy Holidays - this morning we had a little visitor at our house. He showed up before we were out of bed and left a book with his story. Supposedly he goes back to the North Pole each night with a report on how we have been then returns to our house in a new hiding place. The kids loved it - a little creepy for me but too fun. We named him Patchy - he will be with us til Christmas Eve.

Let the games begin!! Grady started soccer this past week. He and four other 4 and 5 year olds will make up the Giants soccer team. Grady was so excited to start practice and to wher the shin guards , because you know "if anyone kicks me mom it won't hurt."

Grady did a wonderful job and we look forward to a great season.

Final Trip of the Summer

We went to California this past week. Spent much time on the beach and at a couple of Angel's Games. Went to the game against the Royals Monday night and got to go to batting practice. Both boys did get some autographs from the players - so was very exciting.

The Rally Monkey was a huge hit. I think that if the Rally Monkey hadn't made an appearance on screen at some time, Grady may have lost all interest.

This is a picture in front of the stadium in by the big helmets. Grady was so excited to get a pic in front of them. Of course, Gunnar had to give him the bunny ears to make it worth while. Can't wait to go back next year.

Dodger Game

This past weekend we went to California with a group of people to a Dodgers game. We sat in the 'All you can eat' seats which was incredible. Dodger dogs, popcorn , soda - you name it. The kids were so excited to get the run the bases at the end of the game. What a great day. Thanks to Coach Eric for setting it up.

In addition to Gunnar going to basketball camp in Vegas, we signed Grady up for an Itty Bitty Sports camp in town. Grady thinks it is so cool that we get to come and watch HIM! Each week is a different sport and he is doing so well. Grady is so competitive. This video is Grady racing against a kindergarten girl - he was so excited to have won the race.

Mini Vegas Vacation

Took a little mini vacation to Vegas this past week. Gunnar went to a basketball camp down at the Tarkanian Center and Grady had an Itty Bitty Sports Camp at the YMCA so we just decided to stay in town. Went to the Stratosphere, not the best area in town but the hotel is inexpensive and nice. Spent the days at the pool and nights visiting with friends and touring the strip.

Gunnar has been on the Hot Shot ride at the top of the tower, but decided this time to that he wanted to ride the XScream (http://www.stratospherehotel.com/thrills/x_scream.cfm) I, being the self proclaimed 'Roller Coaster Queen' was NOT excited about this and DID NOT want to go on it, but not wanting to deprive my child from experiencing things I agreed. We went to the top, paid the $24.00, got INTO the ride and the attendendent put the seat belt on. I reached over and put my hand between Gunnar and the belt and said "Is that good enough?" because it wasn't very tight to be 900 feet about the strip. She says he'll be fine. Then Gunnar starts screaming - "I don't want to die, I don't want to die!!" So they politely stopped the ride and refunded out money.

Needless to say, I was very happy.

What a great birthday weekend. Kurtis and I have been telling the kids that we would do the "Vegas" thing some day so Friday it began. Gunnar has been quite the jet setter lately with sleepovers at friends and in Vegas. His buddy Steele invited him to stay at Mandalay Bay for the night and Janci and Brian invited the family in for Friday. Thanks Guys!!

Friday night, Kurtis and I took the kids to the Garden at the Bellagio. The flowers were incredible and Grady loved the giant bugs. We got there just in time for the fountain show which Gunnar said was AWESOME. We headed over to the Flamingo to show the kids where we got married and Gunnar wanted us to kiss on the steps which was too cute. On the way back through the casino, we had to stop and watch the last few minutes of the NBA finals. Not the best place for a 7 and 4 year old, but they loved it.

Summers go by too fast. Now looking forward to the Dodger Game in July. The kids get to run the bases before the game. Then in August - the Little League World Series. Will be our 3rd year in a row attending in California. Can't Wait.

Finally - Summer is here!

So, here we go with summer vacation. Baseball ended last weekend and we were so lucky this year with the weather. Only a few really hot games, but May was so mild that it was enjoyable to be outside. After the season ended, we ended the school year with Field Day, Kurtis' big day. Field Day turned out perfect as always.

Towards the end of the school year, we welcomed a new nephew into the family Chase Welden. Kurtis' parents came out to visit for a few weeks to see us and visit with Kurtis' sister's family in Vegas. This past weekend we went into Vegas to our old church to attend the baptism and were honored to be CJ's Godparents.

Then - Off to California for a surprise trip for the kids to Knott's Berry Farm. Grady pretty much owned Camp Snoopy and said that he went on the cars a 'zillion' times. Gunnar has graduated to the big guy stuff and mom and dad feel a little old after getting off of the coasters. But- I am a coaster girl and toughed it out riding all that we could during the day. Gunnar's favorite was the Supreme Scream which shoots you in the air and then drops you several times. Kurtis, being afraid of heights, refused to go on that one.

Wood Floor - Hurray!

We finally finished the wood floor in the house. What a project!! I, myself, hate do it yourself projects. So - we pulled up the floor and then had someone come in and put down the new floor. What a mess - but we do love it.

The Floor Project

Yes, this spring break, Kurtis has decided to start a project and rip up the tile and linoleum in the house to put down new flooring. This project has caused much turmoil in our house as I am not fond of dust and clutter. And OH MY - the dust and clutter. There is dust in my house in places that I did not know dust could accumulate. After getting off to a rocky start, the project has proceeded fairly well and we are down to the removal of the adhesive. Hopefully we will be done by Summer Break.

Baseball season is underway. Here are a few pics of batting practice. Thanks to the batting cage, Grady is getting the hang of the tee and Gunnar is getting into the pitching machine. Three to four nights a week at the field. This is when I really need disposable laundry.

Gunnar started baseball on Friday. Kurtis and Mark are coaching the team this year and are really fired up about it. This year is machine pitch for Gunnar - luckily we have the same machine in the batting cage. What that planned? No one will ever know.

Grady had his first TBall practice tonight. The team consists of 4 and 5 year olds. (Actually - several 3 year olds just turning 4) We were impressed that Grady paid attention for the most part and didn't dig any holes in the infield. He was so excited to run the bases and hit off the tee. Here are a few pictures from the practice. We are now having tball and baseball practices 3 nights a week and games on Sat. starting at the end of March. We are ready for the busy season.

Gunnar and the Spartans played their last bball game on Tuesday night. The boys lost this game in the tournament to a pretty good team and were sad to see the season end. Gunnar was selected for the All Star NJB team to go to California but the game was changed and many of the kids could not attend so was canceled. Too bad - we were looking forward to it. Now we hit the batting cage and get ready for baseball and Tball for Grady.

Wonderful Day!

We headed up to Mt. Charleston this morning to hit the sledding hills. Was so beautiful, didn't even have to wear winter coats. Gunnar is a maniac and has no fear, climbs to the top as high as he can and comes down head first - hitting the ramps and catching some air. Grady, a bit more cautious, needs our help still to get to the top and then slowing gets to the bottom only to topple over and yell "WIPE OUT." Kurtis and I look forward to the day when they can both make it to the top on their own and we can sit and watch. Have some hot cocoa and 'visit'. (as Kurtis puts it) What a wonderful day with our sons!!!

Packers vs. Cardinals

This past weekend, we drove to Phoenix to see the Green Bay Packers play the Cardinals. Who would have known that the game would turn out to be so exciting. Kurtis, Ken (Kelly's husband), Gunnar and I left Saturday afternoon for Phoenix to stay the night and get up the next day to head to the game. Gunnar was fascinated by everyone cooking out in the parking lot. He could not believe the size of the stadium and the field. The tickets were awesome and the fans were even more awesome. What a great experience for Gunnar. He even wore his cheesehead that Grandma and Grandpa sent for Christmas. Ken and Kurtis were in a small state of shock following the loss but both agreed that we could not have seen a better game. Thanks to Uncle Ken for scoring the tickets. What a great day!!!

Gunnar had his second basketball game this morning. What difference a year makes. He plays point guard and brings the ball up the court. Here is a picture from this morning of him in action and another of Gunnar and a teammate waiting for the game to start. He is getting so big.

Grady had his Preschool Christmas show on Tuesday night. They sang three songs. Grady was right in the middle of the stage and looked at us the whole time. He was so proud of himself for singing loud and singing the right words. He only pulled his shirt over his head during the performance 3 times and he only picked his nose once!! Good job Grady.

The boys went to visit Santa today at the local Ace Hardware store. Was so fun. Grady whined the whole way in and wanted me to hold him, but then when we got there, he was brave for his girl Peyton who was watching. Must have helped because Peyton went up to Santa's lap too after we were done. Afterwards, we made ornaments at the 'Kids Club'. The highlight of the morning was the 'Snowman Poop' that we purchased to put on daddy's pillow later. LOL

The McDaniel's came over for Thanksgiving. The boys were so excited to have their own table. The food was great. They destroyed the chocolate pie and had a great time playing outside!! Was a beautiful day. We are truly thankful for our friends here in Pahrump.

We took the kids hiking Saturday. What a beautiful day! Went on the Lost Creek trail at Red Rock. The kids absolutely love climbing up the big rocks. Makes mom a little nervous because Grady really has no fear.

Gunnar and Grady were invited to a Halloween/Birthday party this year. Gunnar is a Zombie Bully and Grady chose the Power Ranger costume even though we bought him the Hulk! We had so much fun. I love Halloween - next year I am going to have to do a kids party. I think I did pretty good on Gunnar's make up. Not easy to put make up on a seven year old. Was smart and took soap to the party and of course washed it off about 30 minutes after the party started.

Crazy Week

Gunnar got a little quarterback action today with the Sharks. They didn't win - but he did pretty good at his first chance as quarterback. He wanted the new hairdo make him feel tough. Don't worry it will be gone by Monday.

Grady wants so much to be like his brother. He wears his helmet around when Gunnar isn't using it. For some reason he thinks the mouthpiece is cool. Gross !

On top of it being Gunnar's birthday this week, on Thursday, he got the Big Kahuna for a second time at football practice. Go Gunnar!

Gunnar also was selected as Student of the Month for September for his first grade class. We are so proud of him. This is a pic of Gunnar and Ms. Eisner.

The Sharks won their first football game today. Gunnar was selected as one of the captains today (#70). He looks so big in this picture. He did a great job on the field blocking and assisting in some tackles. Grady likes to be in the stands and cheer his brother on. Today, as you can see, he needed a little extra help at blocking the sun from his eyes.

Gunnar was all fired up before his first game. The Sharks lost by one touchdown. Gunnar did so well - it was so hot. He played both offense and defense so he was wiped out when we got home. Great job Gunnar.

The Big Kahuna

First week of football practice is under our belt. Gunnar did great. At the end of practice, the coaches hand out the 'Big Kahuna' reward for two kids that they feel worked hard that day. The coach said that Gunnar was tall but he got low and hit hard on the bag. He was so proud! He takes the Big Kahuna back next week and passes to the next player that earns it. He can also try to earn it again. We get the pads on Sunday and the real hitting begins. We are keeping our fingers crossed that he likes it next week.

Grady has been Rey Mysterio for 3 days. This is his outfit that he picks in the morning, I have to 'talk' it off of him at night or he would sleep in it. We have a struggle when we go to the store or out to eat. Oh boy!

Grandpa Greenwald sent Gunnar and Grady Kurtis' old cutout of Michael Jordan. They were so excited to put him in their room. Kurtis' friend gave this to him when they graduated from high school. Still has old signatures from high school on it. Gives me the creeps - each time I walk into the kids' room, I see this big guy standing there. Startles me every time.

We headed to Huntington Beach this past week for a few days. We just can't get enough of the sand. And there was sand - EVERYWHERE - I mean, everywhere. We literally spent three days on the beach. Grady loves running from the waves and Gunnar is becoming quite the boogie boarder. His father is teaching him well. We even saw a school of dolphins off of the shore. Me?? I like to sit and watch...relax. Make my occasional appearance in the water ( to pee), walk a little and just sit. Just sit.

Okay - so we are prepping them to be athletes. We only make them wear jerseys 6 days a week and the daily workouts only consist of a few miles around in the desert (at noon). Seriously, Kurtis is on an Ebay bidding spree. Has bid and purchased about 10+ different types of jerseys that the kids can either wear or grow into. I love this one on Grady - go IU. He is so proud of it - he wore it to bed tonight.

Gunnar started football camp this week and is loving it. Alot of fundamental stuff and conditioning. Alot for a 6 year old but he is handling it well. Mommy, on the other hand, needs to take a class to learn about football. Or maybe get a 'Football for Dummies' book. Gunnar is working hard and no complaints. He can't wait for the season to start.

Gunnar's other front tooth was loose in Florida. He worked on it all the way home from church and with the cheering on of Dad and Grady pulled it this after noon. He was so excited. He wanted me to teach him the words to "All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth.." Gunnar was also thrilled with the fact that the straw from the milkshake I brought home fit perfect in the gap. My baby is getting big...

We actually did have to work today. But the weather was so nice we decided this WAS the official first day of summer break. All the boys went out back and played baseball. For Mother's Day this year, Grady made this wonderful gift basket with many goodies:
Gum - to show how we stick together (he had eaten that before I picked him up at daycare)
A Peanut - to show how silly we are (made me eat that)
Bandage - to show how I take care of them (he had to put this on his "owie" in the car before we got home on Friday)
Chocolate Kiss - shows how good it feels to be loved (he opened this on the way home and we found it in the car door Sunday)
Life Saver - show how mom comes to the rescue (he didn't like this because it was minty)

Gunnar made this great card. I love the spelling in kindergarten and I love when teachers leave it the way that they write it. Yes, I do love to eat 'salid'. What a great Mother's Day.

I know that it is spring time, but Grandma had us help her clean the leaves out of her flowerbed. Now remember that we do not really have leaves in Nevada. At least not in our yard. We can barely keep a cactus alive. So, this was truly the first time that the kids had 'jumped' into a leaf pile. This picture is just my kids, always having fun with whatever comes along at the time and we love it. After this was taken we had to haul the leaves up into the woods to a leaf pile which was another adventure in itself.

Spring Break in Wisconsin

We spent Spring Break this year with Kurtis' family in Wisconsin. We surprised them by showing up on their doorstep at 9 pm Sat. Evening after a long day of travel. The day started by us locking ourselves out of our house at 5 am. Luckily we had everything with us so we just headed to the airport. Then after traveling all day we got lost going to Kurtis' parents' house. But all in all the trip was a success - we had Easter Brunch with Kent and Cheryl and the kids. We went to a Brewer's game that they actually won! We also got to see Uncle Ed and Aunt Dorothy (pictured). And so much more. I have pics on my facebook page and will get a slideshow up here asap.

Still a little hesitant, Gunnar gets a little closer everyday to actually touching "Nick". Gunnar absolutely loves having a pet and wants a bearded dragon or a turtle. I can't see myself being a reptile person, but who know.

We ran into the Easter Bunny at Walmart this weekend. Grady would not sit by him but gave him a High Five and took a lollipop. Actually, the Easter Bunny scared me a little too.

Grady is such his own little person, in his own little world. I was watering my flowers tonight and turned around to find Grady with his goggles on driving his jeep. He is on some type of mission. I think that today he was Big Show from WWF wrestling. Not sure what tomorrow will bring.

Today was character day at school. All the boys dressed up like Charlie Brown. One of the kids at school asked Kurtis if he was a cracked egg. I was Little Red Riding Hood - but no pics of mommy. I think I am the only one that knows how to use the camera.

My two little league players. Yesterday was opening ceremonies for Gunnar's baseball team the Athletic's. We had to put together a makeshift uniform for Grady so that he could pretend he was playing too. We told him that he had number 4 because he can't see his back side anyway. Gunnar did great with a hit to the outfield and a great play with Chase on second base!! Great throw Gunnar and good catch Chase! They were so excited.

I am not sure how I will make it emotionally through these sports years. I almost started crying when he struck out and I almost cried when he made the good play. I am the sap in the stands. I am so proud of them.

Grady had an Easter Egg Project for preschool. We had to decorate it as a family. Gunnar and Grady did a super job of using the glitter pins, stickers and Lucky Charms to decorate the egg. Grady was so proud. The picture of Grady and Gunnar hugging was after they were done. Grady told Gunnar "thanks for helping". What a precious moment.

Really, Granny, I promise, I only left them out back for a few minutes alone by themselves. And wha lahh - a lake near the play area. Many figurines were swimming, Grady was stuck in the treehouse and could not come down the slide. Gunnar had to 'drag' him down the ladder to get him out before dinner. Oh - boys.

We bought both boys new bikes this weekend. Was beautiful both days. Gunnar moved up to the Mongoose - he thinks he is pretty cool. Grady starts on the Rocket bike - which he thinks will take he and his buddy Kyle to Mars.

Baseball started this week. We have graduated to machine/coach pitch. Two practices a week until around 6:30. Guess I better get used it. Will be going on now for the next 18 years I am sure. Everytime I look at Gunnar he grows a few more inches. Had to move up to large pants because of his long legs. Keele and I are still wrapping up in blankets because it is so cold when the sun goes down. Will be griping because of the heat soon enough.

Grady and his buddy Kyle like to play Power Rangers during practice. Kyle started Tball this year and Grady will next year. Grady does enjoy wearing his brother's batting helmet but does not pay much attention to practice.

Today was the 100th day of school - for kids it means celebrating: popping 100 balloons, making a necklace out of fruit loops with 100 pieces, receiving '$100' dollars from their teacher (Gunnar wants to buy 2 lizards) and pretending to be on the beach all day at school. For teachers it means 80 DAYS LEFT OF SCHOOL. WAHOOO. Gunnar let Grady try on his 100 day gear. Gunnar had to wear his swimsuit and beach gear to school for the celebration. So fun. Gunnar had to write a story about having 100 things, he said if he had 100 pieces of pizza he would throw them and if he had 100 friends they would all go parachuting.

Gunnar celebrates after the 2nd of two crashes today. The first one he rode up Steele's back on the trip out to the dry lake bed. The second was in a mud hole! Can you tell? Mommy told him that he better get dirty, boys should always be dirty.

Grady stepped out of his comfort zone today and tried out a quad (battery powered). He looks like he is about 9 years old. Did great going straight. Still need to work on the turns!

Kurtis and I actually went out to Valentine's Day dinner last night. Our babysitter, Lindsay, took the kids to the Pahrump Valley Varsity game and Kurtis and I went to dinner. This morning Kurtis drove to Vegas to buy me a new tv for the bedroom and ended up getting stuck for several hours behind a 7 car pile up on the mountain.!! The boys got up to Valentine's day candy, stuffed animals and mommy gave in and bought them each a 'Snuggie'. You would have thought Santa had come. Will post pics later of the boys in the Snuggies. Too funny.
